"Night Shift" by The Commodores

Shame about the outfits, but this a great song, and used brilliantly by Claire Denis in the wonderful 35 Shots of Rum (2009).

  1. I totally loved this song as a kid, even if I knew nothing about Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson at that age. I still love the song today. Such a gorgeous cadence. Listening to it feels like drifting along on the light nighttime breeze of their voices, which is also an apt description (via the lyrics) of how they must feel themselves when listening to the voices of their own musical heroes.

  2. Exactly! Actually, I hadn't heard it before seeing 35 SHOTS..., and its so brilliantly used there that it will also have the association of those images and emotions for me. Beautiful.
