Excellent review, Alex. I know what you mean about the play itself being somewhat lopsided; I noticed that a bit, too, when I saw the production starring Hugh Dancy and Ben Wisham in New York. The gravity in the historically earlier scenes just feels more authentic. Though the audience at the show in New York seemed to love the play as well...which is probably an indication that we (as gay men) haven't actually changed that much over time. We've simply become more like everybody else.
